Ben had given us a preview earlier when he sang for my parents and some friends of ours, so we knew he knew the songs and the movements, the question was would he do it for the actual performance? We picked Ben up from school, ate pizza and played games at the Roundtable down the street, then headed back to school for his Pageant. Ben did great! He was definitely distracted being up on the stage - he was looking all around and pointing at/counting all of his classmates, but he sang parts of it and gave Jim and I a huge smile when he saw us in the audience. Sitting on the ground through the rest of the show started to wear on Ben and by the end, he wasn't a very happy camper, but he got back on stage for the last song. He was saying his head hurt and calling my name, but he seemed just fine when he got back to his classroom and a chocolate Santa was waiting for him. :)
I have to say that I arrived at Ben's school with a heavy heart, but to see all of the children singing, completely unaware of the tragedy that occurred that morning, brought some much needed joy to everyone. We sent our love to the broken-hearted that night through prayer.
