We spent the 4th of July this year, like most years, at my parent's house. They love having friends and family over, and this year was truly special because Carol-Marie, Ellie, and Ryan flew out from Indiana to surprise my parents. Also celebrating with us was my Aunt Kathy, Uncle Jon, Brad, Great Aunt Carol, the Hoelting's, the Biggie's, the Bond's and some other family friends as well. We spent the day swimming in the pool (thank goodness the sun finally came out in the afternoon) and playing games like pool volleyball, beer pong, and blongoball. Lori surprised the kids with pop rockets, which they popped out front, then we all congregated in the backyard to watch all of the fireworks displays. We saw so many fireworks this year, literally the entire horizon was lit up - it was awesome.
The next day, my Mom brought out the gigantic slide she had recently bought, which took the guys about 2 hours to blow up! But it was totally worth it - the boys (and the adults) loved it. A few of us may or may not have been over the weight limit and might have gotten stuck mid-slide! :) That evening Lori, my Aunt Kathy, and I headed to the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach to get some toe rings and some ghetto-fabulous tattoos.
We rounded out the week/weekend with a little more time in the pool and some indoor playing before Craig, Lori, Chase, and Brady had to catch their flight back home to Colorado. We definitely cherished our time together and can add another successful July 4th to the books!
