We celebrated Jim's actual birthday yesterday with a spaghetti dinner, yellow cake with chocolate frosting, and presents. Ben got involved with every step - he helped me make the cake the day before, then helped me frost it (while licking the knife the whole time!), and of course helped Jim open all of his cards and presents. He kept telling us that it was a "great party"! I think he was delirious from all of the sugar. But it was a nice, quiet way to celebrate Jim turning 35.
