What a difference a month - and even a couple of weeks make - at this age. Oliver is now spending the majority of his day sitting up. He is an expert at rolling and pushing himself up to sit now and he just recently started getting himself up onto his hands and knees and even up onto his hands and straight legs (like a downward dog position)!!!! This child is going to be on the move any day now. And you can tell that he knows it too - he seems to get bored and frustrated just sitting in one spot for too long.
Oliver will spend time playing in his Exersaucer, but it never lasts more than 10 minutes. He just gets bored with it quickly. He does enjoy jumping in it though and we actually just bought a true jumper that we need to put together soon - I have a feeling he is going to love that because he LOVES to jump (just like his brother did). If you are holding him, he will jump and jump and jump. My arms are getting into shape, that's for sure! He also loves to grab your hands and push himself up from a sitting position to standing. He gets a huge smile on his face when he stands up - I think he's quite proud of himself.
We continue to get tons of big open-mouth smiles from this guy, but not a ton of laughter. Every now and then, he is in a silly mood and will give lots of little laughs and little squeals of delight, but mostly it's just a lot of big open-mouth smiles. And they are adorable.
Oliver is in 3-6 months clothes (or some just 6 months) but a lot of the pants are getting too short now. We're going to have a hard time finding pants that are long, but skinny enough for this guy! We have moved into size 2 diapers.
Oliver is quite obsessed with Ben - he watches everything he does and always gives him big smiles when Ben interacts with him. It is so sweet to see.
On the food side, we have not tried anymore rice cereal after that first attempt, but I think it might be time to try again. He is really curious when we eat and seems to be interested. We'll give it a try again soon. As far as drinking from the bottle, Oliver seems to have finally gotten used to it, thank goodness. And he's eating SO much better these days. He drinks 5 ounces pretty consistently every 3 hours throughout the day now and I only nurse him in the middle of the night. We do bottles in the evening just to monitor his intake and keep the good results with the bottles going. Hopefully all that intake means he is putting on some much-needed weight. I did the unofficial stand on the scale with and without him and if it's right, Oliver is up to about 15.2 pounds. That would be almost 2 pounds more than 1 1/2 weeks ago, which seems good to me. :)
Oliver continues to be a happy, pretty low-maintenance baby. He really only fusses when he is hungry, tired, or sometimes in the evenings. Putting him down for naps and bedtime is fairly easy - we mostly rock him to sleep or he passes out eating from the bottle or nursing. Even when we rock him, it usually only takes about 10-15 minutes, whereas Ben used to take an hour at least. So this certainly seems easier. The nights are still a little rough, with him waking up twice to eat. Every now and then it will be one time, but typically it's twice (around midnight and 3am). He usually eats and goes right back to sleep, but sometimes it takes a few attempts to get him down. Hopefully he puts on some weight and we can get to sleeping through the night soon.
He usually gets up for the day around 7am, then takes naps after being awake and active for about 2 hours. His naps range from 35 minutes to having to wake him up after 2 or even 2 1/2 hours. So we're still not settling into a set routine, but that's OK. He usually will go down for the night some time between 7 and 8pm.
A new thing Oliver is doing is stretching his arms out a little bit when you are about to pick him up. I love that. And he is pretty stable resting on my hip when I hold him. Every now and then he'll start to lean backwards, but for the most part, he understands he needs to grip around my waist with his legs and he holds onto the back of my shoulder with his little hand. :)
The funniest thing is to see him just sitting in his crib or pack n play after nap or sleeping at night, just waiting for someone to come get him. He just sits there, looking around and then when you come into the room, he gives you the biggest smile. We lowered the crib to accommodate this new skill. :)
We continue to be amazed by this little guy who brings so much joy to our lives.
