We were BUSY this weekend! We got a lot of little things done around the house that have been on the "to do" list for a while, like cleaning, putting up more stuff in Ben's room, trying out some paint samples on the wall, and doing some gardening. Friday night Jim and I celebrated his birthday with a date night to Ventana's. We had a nice dinner lounging on the outside couches and then moved to the fire table/bar for some dessert and to watch the sunset. My Mom came down to watch Ben, so he had a great night too. She stayed the night and the next morning we ate some breakfast and then headed to Home Depot for another Saturday morning project! Jim put together and Ben painted another fire truck before we said our good-byes to Grandma. Then we did some shopping inside (finally bought some loungers for outside thanks to a major clearance!)
. That evening we had Tracy, Marcos, Emery, and Troy over for some fun and BBQ. The kids had a great time playing inside and outside and the adults got to catch up out on the patio. Of course I forgot to take pictures, but we had a great time. On Sunday, we got up and decided it was time for another visit to the Safari Park. We did our usual routine of the tram, slushie, walk around, merry-go-round, penny machine and home. :) It was really hot, so we only lasted a couple of hours and called it a day. That afternoon we did some grocery shopping, then had our usual Spaghetti Sunday dinner followed by Ice Cream Sundays Sunday to end the weekend in style. :)
Oh, and that milestone we hit this weekend? It may sound silly to most people, but anyone who knows Ben well, knows that he does not come out of bed once he wakes up from naps and in the morning. He'll just lay there and talk or sing until we come and get him. Don't get me wrong, this has been GREAT up until now, but we just think he's old enough now to come out on his own (not to mention if he has to go potty). So we decided to reward him with some marbles if he came out on his own after nap this weekend. Saturday he woke up and still sat there, so we had to yell to him to come out, which he finally did, but on Sunday he came out all on his own!!!! We couldn't believe it. We had the monitor on and didn't even hear him wake up. I was folding laundry and Jim was watching TV downstairs and Ben just showed up with a huge smile on his face! He ran over and gave us hugs and was so proud of himself. It may sound small, but this is BIG in our household. :)
