Trick or Treat

We had such a great time trick-or-treating around our neighborhood this year. We now know our immediate neighbors a lot better and they were so excited to see our little cowboy and definitely gave him way more candy than necessary! :) Terri, who lives across the street, even let Ben pretend to shoot her and then took some family pictures for us.

We ventured out at 6.15pm to make sure it was actually dark this time (last year we went out a bit early!) and we walked around for about an hour, stopping at about 25 houses for candy. Ben LOVED it. He loved ringing all of the doorbells (we had to wait until other kids left so they could close the door first) and was quick with the "trick or treat", "happy halloween", and "thank you". He didn't always get them in the right order, but it was cute. After each house he'd say, "Let's go to another house now!" He only got scared at 2 houses - one had flashing lights, scary music, and a fog machine. I tried to take him to the door, but he wanted nothing to do with it. Also, our neighbor had scary music blasting from the front window that freaked Ben out a bit - it was still going when we put Ben to bed so I had to turn his fan on high and play a music box to try and drown out the sound.

Overall, it was a great night and all three of us had a lot of fun. Ben got way more candy than needed - he filled up his entire pumpkin bucket and I had to carry it towards the end because it was so heavy. Everyone in our neighborhood is very friendly and loved Ben's cowboy costume.  And we got away with Ben only eating 2 pieces of candy once we were done and walking home.

Ben also had some great lines while we were out:
* "Happy Halloween kids!" to any group of trick-or-treaters we passed and they were usually older than him!
* "I'm not afraid of NOTHING, not bats or vampire squids or witches.....just monster music."
* "Mommy, you hold my pumpkin and I'll put the candy in it - DEAL?" (where did he get the deal part??? that's a new one!)

All ready to hit the neighborhood - guns and all this time!
Posing for a picture with Daddy, who wore some Western gear as well
Off we go, my 2 cowboys!
Ringing a doorbell with his gun  :)

One of the best parts of the night!

Becoming a pro at this!
Seeing if Ben will go to the scary house with me....he doesn't look too sure!
Thank goodness we had the bright lights on our cell phones!
