Ben's Room Makeover

In March 2013 (yes 2 years ago!), we started the process of re-doing Ben's bedroom. We knew it was about time for him to switch to a "big boy" bed, so we thought it made sense to re-do his room at the same time.  Here are some "before" pictures from when we moved into our house back in 2011...

So in March 2013 (after a lot of "Pinning", searching kid's room decor websites, and talking to our design friend, Billie), we had a game plan for the room and started painting.  Jim and I even put up the chair rail ourselves.

New lamps from The Land of Nod
New toy storage unit from IKEA

And here is the finished room!  We based it off of the "B" - "E" - "N" Dr. Suess letters that we already had.  Then we added the gray and darker blue on the walls and some pops of orange.  We decided to convert Ben's closet into a reading nook and I found some prints on Etsy to bring in some more chevron like the curtains.  Billie brought it all together with the pennant that hangs above Ben's bed - it has fabric that matches his sheets, some that match the lamps, some with chevron, and some with a Dr. Seuss theme.  We still need to fill in a little blank space in the reading nook and get some flags to mark his United States map with the location of all of his family members, but besides that, I think we're done.  I absolutely love the way it turned out.  It might just be my favorite room in the house (it also happens to be the only one we've spent any time and money fixing up!).
